Introduction to the Conservation Display
This project aims to develop an engaging display that educates visitors about conservation and highlights the activities of the NGS Conservation Department, forming part of the Scottish National Gallery initiative. The display will complement the new artwork exhibits, enhancing the overall visitor experience and fostering a deeper appreciation for conservation efforts.
Situated in the 'link corridor'—the pathway that visitors traverse after entering through the garden entrance of the Scottish National Gallery—the installation will serve as a focal point. An intriguing object or composition will be strategically positioned at the entrance, designed to be visible from the outside, sparking curiosity and attracting potential visitors.
Drawing inspiration from surrealism and its artistic expressions, the display emphasizes ordinary representations while encouraging imaginative arrangements. The installation will be designed for 360-degree viewing, allowing visitors to explore its elements from all angles and blurring the lines between the composition and the observer, creating an immersive experience that invites reflection on the importance of conservation.
